DESCRIPTION:
The CS494000 WITSonarTM Sensor is the lowest
cost Ultrasonic sensor for distance measurements. This
sensor can be used for any number of applications that
require distance measurements between moving or stationary
objects, such as robotics, security systems, or as a
replacement for infrared sensors. It has an activity status
LED and it uses only one I/O pin. The WITSonarTM
sensor measures distance using ultrasonic technology. An
ultrasonic sound burst, well above the human hearing range,
is transmitted from the unit and distance-to-target is
determined by measuring the time required for an echo to
return. The output from the WITSonarTM sensor is
a variable-width pulse that corresponds to the distance to
the target. Interfacing to the C StampTM microcontroller is
easy: a single I/O pin is used to trigger the WITSonar
sensor, and to receive its output pulse equivalent to the
distance-to-target. An onboard header allows the WITSonarTM
to be plugged into a solderless breadboard or to be
connected to its host through a standard three-pin servo
extension cable. The sensor can be triggered using the
PULSOUT command and its output can be received using the
PULSIN command. The WITSonarTM Sensor is
compatible with the C Stamp microcomputer’s supplies and
signal levels, and it has holes for easy bolt or screw based
mounting.
